Couldn’t even take pics of all the fish All I can say is” Epic” Crystal clear water and big schools of reds cruising the flats, I truly can’t describe what we were dealing with, but it was all good! Paul Rankin having some fun. Sorry I put 2 shots of same fish in. And as always make when hiring your guide for flats fishing he at least has a flats boat.

William w/ Big'uns

This January has to go down as the best fishing weather and catching weather ever. That was until Cal Collier and his son William arrived. Winds never below 20 and clouds,. Yea! Overall it has been great though with some nice schools of fish doing their thing, and accepting our offerings. Prop 27, the measure that gives Georgia DNR the ability to manage our fisheries with some opposition. Let’s hope this measure will pass and then let’s hope Georgia DNR will bring the state into modern fisheries management. All fish caught and released in the Cane Patch area of Ossabaw.

9 o'clock 60 feet and closing

I’ve been poling the Low Country area now for 20 years and have never seen a better January. This past week has provided the perfect weather for chasing reds on the flats. After so many perfect days I can’t even begin to count how many fish we caught on fly!! With the water clear and the winds light the reds have been tailing and slurping small bait fish in some very skinny water. These are just a few of the fish caught, can’t keep digging out the camera for every fish.

BenPiggot gave me a call saying he was in from England and wanted to do some fishing. Well it was cold blowing 25 plus, so what else are ya going to do? Go fishing! What a nice surprise we had when the stripers we’re on top popping baits. After catching some nice fish and the blitz subsiding we began pitching plastics and dang if we didn’t catch a nice flounder. IN all it was a great day fishing! Ya never know till ya go!

Wow what weather we have been having! With temps in the upper 70′s and light winds the reds have been pretty darn happy. CAne Patch has been good lately with some nice schools milling around and popping baits. Brandon and his son Austin headed out with me the other day and what was a perfect day started a bit slow so we bounced around a bit and found a great school of fish tailing at the low tide and chasing lil shrimps up and down the flat. I have only gone striper fishing one day and it was not what I expected, Blanked. Some friends of mine went the day before and crushed them. Should have been there yesterday. On another note Remember CCA Georgia is on the wrong page when it come to conservation, the last episode that happened with the CCA President killing way to many fish was the last straw! Not to say CCA has not done good things in other states, but in Georgia they have sucked for the last 20 years I have been here, and continue to suck when it comes to conservation minded issues.

Things a have been going well on the water as of late, went out on a solo mission and put about a 70lbs tarpon in the air on fly! I seem to having a tough time keeping them buttoned up. Oh well, fun enough just getting plenty of jumps. The reds are really getting a belly full on low and high water. The trout bite has continued to show more signs of life as well. Looks like the ocean is going to blow up satrting wed. with 30mph N.E. winds. Major bummer!!

Backs and Tails

The fall rush is on!! Reds on the high and low tides are trying to pack on the pounds for the winter. The trout bite has really been heating up as well. The past couple of weeks I have been getting some great reports of trout hitting on the incoming tide. There are also a bunch of tarpon around now for the mullet run. Plenty of inside creek mouths have had a good number of fish holding on them. I know all to well after running over a good number of fish I was not expecting to see there. Damn It!!

"Salt Life"

To Say the least we have been wearing some Jaws out the past week. Andy Bowen and Will Abbott had a good time busting fish on every flat we poled. That Will is one funny F@#ker. I have more pics to come, time to go fishing!! Has CCA Georgia done anything to ensure a great fishery along the coast, The answer is no. Oh,I forgot the failed one time stocking program.

Damn fish were all over us, here are 2 of the 5 fish we nailed in the grass Yesterday. Sometimes you have to much of a good thing, fish keep popping up all around. Believe it or not it makes it more difficult when ya have to many targets. Been finding some nice tarpon in some cool places the past 2 days, no eats yet maybe tomorrow.

To say the least we have been busting some nice reds around town. The other day my customer and I were idling up a creek getting ready for some tailing red fishing and what do ya know, Tarpon rolling and busting mullet in the grass. We set up and had a few shots but missed the shot of the day with a 70-80lbs fish cruising on the surface and chasing bait behind the boat. By the the time I spun around the fish had worked his way further down the creek and then was gone. We didn’t hook up, but things were exciting for a while. Seems as though a bunch of fish have slid in shore to feed hard on mullet getting ready for the big move south. I was looking at the advertised guides on google the other day and not one of them are set up for fly fishing very well, big bay boats are not going to cut it on spooky shallow water reds. As a customer you need to find out what kind of boat the guide is using and how many fly fishing trips they run. Don’t get fooled by a bait fishing guide that is trying to make some money taking people fly fishing. You will fly fish for a few minutes and then be told the tides are not right and end up bait fishing.
