With bigger tides this week things may get a bit muddy but fish have to eat, just pick your day and the right part of the tide. Next week I am anticipating a warming trend with increase action with the stripers. With a bit warmer water the bait shoukd get off the bottom bringing the stripers with them. Another month or so we should start seeing some triple tail down south, and let me tell ya this fish is fun if your into sight casting with fly or spin. Pin point casting to a picky fish can drive a man nuts!

We have been busting ome nice fishy’s ass. there have been some nice breaks in the weather to get out and sight cast reds. The water last week was as clear as you could imagine in the Cane Patch area with very large schols of reds ready to eat a fly. I have also seen a few more dead trout on the flats and 2 sheepshead floating. This is going to be the yeart to practice catch and release a smuch as possible. There are concerns of what this cold weather will do to the redfish fry that were spawned last fall. Let’s hope they are fine and we continue to see and increase in the number of reds out there

I have been tying the savannah fly for about 15 years now and I have to say there has not been a better go to fly in my box for reds than this one. Although it’s not my fav for tailers in the grass, any low tide situation this fly has produced over the years. The best thing about this fly is simplicity. It only takes minutes to tie and it works. I will Tie this with no eyes bead chain or dumbell depending on the sink rate desired. The popper stopper is great for reds as well. Whether in the grass or low tide this fly can produce awesome topwater bites for reds

The stripers are banging around upriver, we headed out in 25mph winds and managed a couple of lil guys, The reds are really going nuts on the light wind days, this pic of Julie says it all! We managed easily 25 fish on fly and spin, with numerous doubles. With the water temps hopefully on the rise soon we will see more striper action. I love chasing reds in the shallows but stripers up river are a kick in the pants as well. Soon tripletail will be showing up by late March so get ready for some reel fun sight casting down south for these guys.

With the unusual cold this year there has been many trout floating dead in the area. Not a good sign. With spring comming anglers should do everything they can to release the large female trout to help replennish the stock sooner than later. With new reports, as of report time more fish are being seen dead. With this weeks temps being sub freezing at night we may loose even more fish. The last fish kill took four to five years for the trout to get the numbers back up. We can make a difference this time. The reds on the otherhand have been hang’n in there, many nice schools on the flats that are hungry due to the lack of bait. We can only pray that last years spawned off fry can make it thru the cold temps or we may have a couple of tough years ahead of us. Did some striper fishing yesterday and we managed two 4-5 lbs fish, tough day. All I can say is, Bring on spring ! it has been a long cold winter.

When the winds and tides line up up we have been busting their butts! We have had some great days of low tide red fishing in the clear waters of Feb. The other day a customer and I had seen this red tailing and spashing along a sanbar, we needed to go see what all the fuss was about. A nice red around 26 ” Had a 8 inch mullet pinned to the bar and was trying to get the head shot on him so he could finish him off. I told my guy I would let that guy be and let him enjoy his meal, and the beautiful day. There still is some spotty striper action to be had in the river, Some being caught in Port Wentworth bridge and down river as well.
