Couldn’t even take pics of all the fish All I can say is” Epic” Crystal clear water and big schools of reds cruising the flats, I truly can’t describe what we were dealing with, but it was all good! Paul Rankin having some fun. Sorry I put 2 shots of same fish in. And as always make when hiring your guide for flats fishing he at least has a flats boat.

Well last night was perfect weather perfect water clarity, the only prob was the tide was late and with low sun we kept bumping some real big schools of fish. We had a few eats on fly but never came tight so we decided to start banging w/ the spin and it paid off. Tides are starting to cooperate as the week goes on so the sight casting will only get better. What a winter this has been, with mild temps and for the most part light winds I can’t think of a winter in the past 20years that I have been caught as many fish in Jan as this year.

Make sure when hiring a local guide for fly fishing that he at least has a good flats boat. Too many google advertising guides out there saying they can take you fly fishing only to be constantly spooking fishing from great distances. Todays reds are far to spooky for a barge approach in shallow waters. A good quite flats boat is as important as fly selection.

William w/ Big'uns

This January has to go down as the best fishing weather and catching weather ever. That was until Cal Collier and his son William arrived. Winds never below 20 and clouds,. Yea! Overall it has been great though with some nice schools of fish doing their thing, and accepting our offerings. Prop 27, the measure that gives Georgia DNR the ability to manage our fisheries with some opposition. Let’s hope this measure will pass and then let’s hope Georgia DNR will bring the state into modern fisheries management. All fish caught and released in the Cane Patch area of Ossabaw.

Well after 7 days of great fishing and perfect weather all good things must end, now it’s raining and blowing. This winter has been so nice in comparison to last winter freezing temps and howling north west winds, maybe there is global warming and if so I welcome it for now. Outlook for the remainder of the winter looks mild so hopefully we’ll have more good days ahead. Bob Vought and I headed out on monday and found some fish but with clouds and tough wind it made things a bit difficult but not impossible. Sometime as a guide ya get a bit jammed up at s spot not wanting to leave, then ya do and still get the wrong results. Than you go for a bit of a ride and sometimes find what ya want. Happy Fish!

9 o'clock 60 feet and closing

I’ve been poling the Low Country area now for 20 years and have never seen a better January. This past week has provided the perfect weather for chasing reds on the flats. After so many perfect days I can’t even begin to count how many fish we caught on fly!! With the water clear and the winds light the reds have been tailing and slurping small bait fish in some very skinny water. These are just a few of the fish caught, can’t keep digging out the camera for every fish.

BenPiggot gave me a call saying he was in from England and wanted to do some fishing. Well it was cold blowing 25 plus, so what else are ya going to do? Go fishing! What a nice surprise we had when the stripers we’re on top popping baits. After catching some nice fish and the blitz subsiding we began pitching plastics and dang if we didn’t catch a nice flounder. IN all it was a great day fishing! Ya never know till ya go!

The winds have been working in our favor, bringing somer happy fish in shallow water. We have had some nice reds busting baits on the flats, chasing mullet and shrimp. Brent and Brian Hartley had a good day fly fishing with me catching first reds on the fly! Today longtime customer Bob Lunsford jacked 10-12 reds and I helped with another 10-12 fish. What a day! Even with the wind blowing 20 plus! We even managed a few trout out of the skinny water to add to our count. Hopefully we’ll have a mild winter so the trout bite will continue, it’s fun having those guys around to throw in the mix.

Push!!

The Pre thanksgiving fishing may have had some of the best conditions of the year! Light and Varible winds made the fish somewhat happy. although it didn’t make them easier to catch though. When conditions get to perfect, you can see the fish great, but in turn the see and feel you better as well. This makes for great fishing, good communication between poler and angler, and quick on the money cast will bring the results. In conditions like this ya want to slow your approach as well. Ben Estes headed on down for a couple of days with the first day providing the best action, day to brought some big south winds and tougher conditions.
