Mark M.and I headed out to look for some poon yesterday and it wasn’t happening where we were, so sometimes you  have to improvise.  Idling along a sand bar we noticed some reds creeping with there backs out of the water !!  I wish we had found this a bit earlier.  By the time we dialed these fish in the tide was coming in and getting harder to find them on the bar.  These reds were in ankle deep water and so such a kick in the pants !!  I am soooooo ready to go do that again and again and again.  Tarpon are all around  now, just seems as though I’m not dialed in completely yet, but soon to come.  Reds are always around and are always a good time when the poon leaving you hanging.

Summer is on us !  Funny how this year the weather went from winter to summer in a hurry.  Tarpon are showing up in Georgia and the low country.  The bay Point area is showing some fish and all along the coast of Ga..  The fish are a bit sporadic as of yet.   We made a run for the poon yesterday and had a good amount of fish rolling popping some baits and floating.  Even had a couple of fish waking right towards the boat and they just disappeared.  Seems as though we were a bit out of position on every fish and just couldn’t make it happen.  We did manage an eat, but just didn’t get tight.  Big Jacks are out there swimming around ready to blow up on top water, triple tail are in and we have been seeing some monster spanish mackerel slashing baits.   something that I found interesting this week.  Saw a guides post on a web page,  a cooler full of reds on ice and the guide is complaining that the bite has not been as good as previous years. ok, I may be a catch and release guy on reds and I know folks like to keep some fish.  That’s ok as well, but if your running trips and going to the same spots and killing fish you have no right to complain about the bite.  Seems as though the trout bite has really started to blow up as well !  Top water at first light can really make for some good fun.
