Well October has been nothing but interesting. I had a couple of days that the trout were a bit scarce than all of a sudden bam !  The trout were everywhere.  Using light action spinning gear and a quarter ounce DOA whit with gold flake seemed to really do the trick.  Trout fishing may be my favorite fishing next to tarpon on fly,  something about pitching spin rods with doa’s or a early or late day top water lure and busting trout right and left is such a blast.  Also with the trout you can go out and fish a bit more relaxed due to the nature of the fish and anglers. So many folks target reds that certain stages of the tide can get crowded, but you can go trout fishing and have entire areas all to yourself and feel free to move around and not spook fish.  Along the beach fronts has been a hoot with some reds of all sizes busting baits in the shallow water.  I have been poling right in the suds and having a blast.  This is not for the faint of heart, with waves coming at you it can be tough keeping your balance at times.  There have been some Tarpon around but seems as though the schools are becoming fewer and further apart.  What a season it has been, 30 poon in the air and 18 landed all on fly. We have jumped a couple more on spinning outfits as well.  Damn I miss that fish already.  I don’t like to wish my days away,  but I can’t wait till next year. The reds in the shallows are turnt up !!  Low water has provided intense action with nice schools marching and shrimp fly everywhere.  Pickney Island is the place, close to the boat ramp and many schools of fish make it the ideal place to pursue reds in the shallows.

Well all good things must come to an end, and it looks like the bulk of the poon are moving south.  That’s not to say it’s over but it’s definitely on the downslide from what I have seen.  There have been some sightings of fish busting bait this week, but every time I have looked I have come a bit empty.  Further down the coast is holding some fish and hopefully they will hold for a bit longer.  On the other hand there have been some big triple tail floating around and nice reds in the grass and in some really cool areas that I will post pics of later in the week. The trout bite this week has gone bonkers !  Went out a couple times by myself and commenced to woopin them good.  Just using a white DIO 1/4 shrimp seemed to work just perfect.  Cast the DOA let it sink and give it a lil twitch from time to time and you should be able to get all ya want.  Ya know twice this week I have been at the ramp and people have said they caught the heck out of the fish 2- 3 days in a row at their spot and came in empty today,Well what the F$#k do you think is going to happen when you kill every fish in that spot and continue to go back and expect to catch more.  I don’t even get it,  is it that hard to imagine or get your pee brain wrapped around the idea of releasing fish so you can possibly go back and catch them again.  It seems as though guides and anglers here have a tendency to beat there little spot to death keeping fish or just  fishing the spot day after day after day after, well you get it. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy fresh fish as much as anyone but responsible harvest is key.  I Release all reds, and try and get trout and flounder for the cooler and there is short supply of trout now!  I’m talking every cast once you ind them.
